The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 became fully operational on 31 January 2013. The act imposes a pre procurement duty on the council to consider how procurement might improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of the area in which a contract is delivered. A social value policy has been approved which outlines how the council will discharge its responsibilities in this area.
The Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility aims to boost the local economy through support to the local supply chain, creation of job opportunities and ensuring employees are paid a fair wage.
What is the charter?
The Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility is a set of guiding principles to which Birmingham city council (BCC) will adhere to and to which it invites its contracted suppliers, the wider business community, other public sector bodies (including schools) and third sector organisations (including grant recipients) to adopt.
