Investing in the growth of Advanced Engineering

Tuesday 28th August

The Growth Hub has helped a range of businesses in the Greater Birmingham and Solihull region grow through free business workshops, access to funding and finance, and support from Growth Hub partners.

Established in 1978, Advanced Engineering (UK) Ltd has grown to be a leading provider of high quality engineering services to the UK and European marketplace. By combining investment in the latest machining technologies, employee training, product quality and a companywide customer focussed culture, and the recent expansion of the manufacturing facility completed early 2011, Advanced Engineering are in a prime position to offer the highest quality engineering service. The business offers a full service from, Advanced Product Quality Planning,  Engineering concept, fixture design, fixture manufacture, supply chain development and management, onsite manufacture & part approval.

Challenges of the business

Advanced Engineering faced several barriers to current growth. They needed to invest in a new Production control software that would enable the business to meet the product and process tractability needs of the current market sectors. Another challenge for Advanced Engineering was the need to train and develop its staff in line with its business needs and expectations.

How the Growth Hub helped

Advanced Engineering were signposted towards several business support services to help them with their current business challenges. They were assisted by Aston University’s Low Carbon SMEs project, which offered free expert advice and grant support to develop energy efficient solutions to lower energy use in gas and electric and overall lowering carbon emissions.

The Growth Hub was also able to help Advanced Engineering with access to funding. They applied for the Business Improvement Grant fund to help them receive funding for a new MRP system, which would help them support the potential to diversify the business into new markets.

They also accessed the Manufacturing Growth Programme, which provided funding to support the training of a young Quality Trainee to become trained in the Quality Management systems.

The funding has helped Advanced Engineering continue their growth potential, Managing Director Terry Pedley said:

"We have been able to build a skilled team at Advanced Engineering and this combined with investment in equipment, quality system development and a customer focussed approach allows us to maintain our position in the market place”.
