The Growth Hub assists an accident repairs company to receive a grant

Friday 24th July

The Growth Hub has helped the team at PJB Accident Repairs to enhance their company image on their new premises, by guiding them to receive a grant. The business is an accident repair centre, focussing on recovering and repairing vehicles for customers, as well as private repairs.

Like many businesses, PJB Accident Repairs was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Assama Mahroof, Administrator, explained “everyone is having issues with COVID-19, and we were trying to improve our company image as we just moved premises last year, but the problem was with funding and this year especially, it got worse.”

Fortunately, in terms of looking for help, they were directed to the GBSLEP Growth Hub as an initial solution. The director of the company has “worked with the Growth Hub before and she recommended them. We went to them and they really helped us out.” PJB Accident Repairs received the advice from Sandra Cunningham, one of the Growth Hub’s SFEDI accredited Business Advisers, this guidance helped them survive and grow as a company in these dire times. Assama said, “we needed different advice on what we could do and how we could proceed, the Growth Hub gave us advice on a grant that we were able to access earlier thanks to them. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been aware of it and who knows if we even would have got it so thanks to them, we were quickly able to get a grant.”

Furthermore, the Growth Hub gave PJB Accident Repairs early notice on grants so that they were able to submit their applications on time, which led to good news… they claimed £10,000 in funding. The grant has gone towards advancing their company image, Assama (Administrator, PJB Accident Repairs) stated, “we’ve got a new building so we want to do some cladding at the front to make it more appealing for the area and for the customers, especially for when people drive by”. He went on to say, “we’ve bought new uniforms for everyone and even the recovery truck has been repainted. Its mainly the colour scheme that we are changing to improve the image and to give the idea that this is a very well-run business and very successful.”

In addition to helping PJB Accident Repairs to secure funding, the Growth Hub also guided the team through new ideas, explained how they can go about implementing the ideas, and connected them with other businesses. Assama explained “the Birmingham City Council will only allow electric vehicles and hybrids to drive in the Birmingham city centre. With that law coming in soon, we had some ideas and the Growth Hub have given us a few links and some advice on how we can proceed with that. It is still in process but hopefully it is something that can be up and running soon”.

Assama was very happy with the service that was provided by the Growth Hub, stating that he was especially pleased with “the quick responses, they’ve been really helpful, they give multiple directions to go to if you need it.” When talking about the team, he acknowledged that “they are very friendly, they help us in any way possible and do the best they can no matter what. They’ve got different connections to help us and that is really helpful for us.” This is a great example of how the Growth Hub provides a network of expert advisors & partnerships and can help you to access the support you need to harness opportunities and to innovate your business.
