An Employer's Introduction to Apprenticeships

Wednesday 17th February

On 9 February (during National Apprenticeship Week) our team ran an introductory webinar for employers on how apprenticeships can be used to bring vital new skills to your team, including upskilling your existing staff.  After an introduction from Gillian Keegan, our expert team - along with guest speakers - tackled everything from grants and funding, how to recruit, your responsibilities as an employer, and case studies demonstrating the benefits other businesses have seen.

Apprenticeship Myth Busting

During part of the session we dealt with the most common misconceptions of apprenticeships:

"Apprenticeships are only for a handful of specific sectors"

While this might once have been the case, apprenticeships are now available in over 1500 occupations across 170 industries, ranging from fashion to accounting.

"An apprentice won't bring real value to my business"

Research indicated that apprenticeships boost productivity by on average £214 per week so more and more employers are now choosing to grow their business through apprenticeships.

With employers saying that former apprentices are 15% more employable than those with other qualifications, apprenticeships genuinely provide a stepping-stone to a brighter future.

"Apprenticeships are only suitable for young people starting out, and my business has more advanced skills needs"

Anyone can be an apprentice, including your current staff members who are looking to upskill or retrain to move into another part of the business. If you've had to pivot because of COVID, an apprenticeship could be the most cost effective way to bring in the new skills your business needs and avoid making redundancies.
