Aston University explain why you should be supporting the accidental managers in your business.
Many organisations have individuals who have been given managerial responsibilities with little training. These are accidental managers, and they may need your support. Accidental managers are people who have been promoted to a management position because of their excellent performance in their role. Management roles come with their own skills set and knowledge and as hybrid working is becoming the norm, managing a team may come with more challenges than ever.
Reports from the Charted Management Institute (CMI) and London School of Economics have shown how poor management practices have made a significant contribution to draining productivity in the UK.
The CMI’s findings suggest that delivering appropriate training to managers is key to solving the UK’s productivity problem, as organisations with effective management and leadership development programmes are 32 per cent more productive than those with accidental managers.
Aston University offers a fantastic range of programmes which will allow you and your employees to discover a new route to management. These courses could be just what you need to help an accidental manager get back on track. The Chartered Manager programme offers the opportunity for employees to gain real business experience learning on the job while studying towards a degree in Leadership and Business Management debt-free. While programmes such as Engineering Leadership & Management focus on transforming apprentices into confident and informed leaders within an engineering organisation.
